Horse in Water

Horse in Water

A photo composite of a section of rapids near Spokane Falls along the Spokane river in Washington State.  If you use your imagination, it looks to me like a horse leaping out of the water.  Patterns such as this can be found in pools and eddies around rocks in fast flowing streams.  Most images like this have to be taken “blind” with a camera since it is often impossible to get a usable perspective of the scene while looking through a viewfinder.  You usually come across the potential of one of these single shots while reviewing a photo taking session.

After optimizing the exposure and color balancing of the picture, an oil paint filter was applied and the image was cropped in a circular format.  The core subject was processed by embossing and beveling a circular layer to create a 3-D look. The image was finished by placing the core subject on a faded background of water closeups.

Some people think the shape looks like a dragon.
