Nerby’s Store

Nerby’s Store

A 18.5″ X 12.5 ” (18.25″ X 12.25″ window) watercolor of Chris Nerby & Son’s Trading Post in Bethel, Alaska.  All of the local people always called it “Nerby’s Store”.  The crookedness of the building is not an exaggeration, it is the result of permafrost heaving.  The store was still in operation when the photograph referenced by this image was taken in the early 1980’s.
