North From Steptoe Butte in Infrared

A true infrared image of the Palouse to the north of Steptoe Butte in Eastern Washington State.  Sigma camera owners can remove the infrared filter found on most digital cameras in the field.  With this filter removed and a red filter attached to the camera, I can photograph infrared light beyond human vision, up to 1100 nM in wavelength.  I then convert the “capture” into a very stark black and white image with deep skies and sharp lines.  I usually like to soften the lines with an oil paint filter.  Several farm structures can be seen in the rolling landscape along with a wind farm.
